Head football coach Richard Henert says returning players have a bit of a chip on their shoulders, and feel there is some unfinished business left to attend to. Graduated are 2008 lineman of the year Jackson Collins, and fellow All-State lineman Clay Tidwell. The Patriots also said goodbye to defensive back Steve Wright and linebacker Kevin Ward, as well as running back Dane Ebanez, all of whom were first team all-state performers. Henert says his top concern this off-season was retooling the offensive and defensive lines. He’s been pleasantly surprised thus far with the boys up front, and again thinks the Patriots will be strong on the line of scrimmage, but adds that the team will rely on skilled position players. Quarterback Lee Jones leads that group. Jones, who was also an All-State selection at outside linebacker, returns to anchor the team behind center. Always a threat to run, Jones may be relied upon to chuck the ball a time or two this season.
